Alternatively, we can choose 5hour of enchanting drive through the meandering road along the Prithvi Highway which will eventually take us to the beautiful lake city of Pokhara. The route will be full of natural grandeurs like the Trishuli River, rice terraces, and numerous peaks in the background.

It takes 20 minutes of pleasant flight over mountains to arrive at the Airport in Jomsom. We will be enjoying the views of Annapurna and Dhaulagiri Mountains from the comfortable seats of the plane. Landing at Jomsom which is the district headquarters and the hub of the Mustang Region, we will begin our trekking by walking along Kali Gandaki River to the village at Kagbeni which is the gateway for Upper Mustang.

Walking along the eastern bank of Kaligandaki River, we will follow the upward trail to Tangbe Village. Making our way through the narrow alleys between the homes, we will arrive at the fields of buckwheat and apples which we will cross to reach to Chhusang Village. Later we will cross the Kaligandaki River over a suspension bridge to make it to Chele Village which is located at the top of the ridge.

Climbing the slope, we will move forward along the side of a deep canyon and cross a stack of rock at Samar from where we will pursue the downward trail to the river. Passing through Juniper trees, we will choose the escalating trail which leads us through the cave at Ramchung to Syanbochen.

Passing through the Tibetan-styled local houses, tea houses, and chortens, we will choose the ascending trail to Yamda La which is a pass located at3850m altitude. Enjoying some of the scenic natural views from the apex of Yamda La, we will travel through Nyi Pass (4010m) to the pretty village of Ghami.

Walking through the trail lined with Mani walls, we will have a gentle descent from the hill to arrive at the huge five-story white Dzong and red Gompa which exists at the Kali Gandaki gorge on the eastern edge of the village. Observing the architectural design of the Gompa, we will make an advance to the village of Charang which is located at the top of Charang Chu.

Following the rocky path, we will lower down to Charang-Chu from where the trail escalates uphill to arrive at the land of moraines. We will have the first look into the walled city of Lo-Manthang from the land of moraines before heading towards the walled city of Lo-Manthang.

It is taken as the exploration day. We will explore around the walled city of Lo Manthang by which we will be visiting the western valley of Tingkhar, to the site of the summer palace of the Raja. Kimling, Phuwa, and the Namgyal Gompa (Monastery of Victory Gompa which is the newest and most active of Lo) are other sites that are worth visiting.

Lo-Manthang is the farthest point of our trek. So, on the 10th day, we will be making a return trip. We will choose a different path that moves forward through Dramkar. En route, we will visit the Ancient Gyokar Gompa which is rich in paintings that are popular among locals as the wish-fulfilling Gompa. Climbing the ridge, we will have a gentle descent from where we will continue walking to Dramkar.

Choosing the dusty and windy trail, we will arrive at the barren lands of Ghiling. We will enjoy the perfect views of Dhaulagiri and Nilgiri Mountains from Ghiling and later we will visit the friendly locals at Ghiling to know their ways of living. We will stay in a camp at Ghiling for the night.

The trek on the 12th day begins early in the morning as we take the easy trail that lowers down from the hill to Chhuksang. It takes about 6hours of walking to arrive at Chhuksang which offers pleasant views of the surrounding mountains and landscapes. We will be staying overnight at Chhuksang.

Continuing through the trail that prolongs along the southern border of the Mustang region, we will head to Kagbeni. Walking past Kagbeni, the trail prolongs through the bank of Kali Gandaki River all the way to Jomsom. Since flights from Jomsom during the daytime are usually impossible due to heavily blowing wind, we will be staying overnight in a hotel at Jomsom.

20 minutes of an early morning flight with views of Annapurna and Dhaulagiri Mountains will take us to Pokhara. We will spend our spare time exploring the enchanting Lake city of Pokhara whereby we will be visiting Phewa Lake, Seti Gorge, David Fall, KI Singh Bridge, Mahendra Cave, and the International Mountaineering Museum prior to returning back to the hotel where we will be staying overnight.

5 hours of scenic drive through the serpentine roads along Prithvi Highway with exotic views of the Trishuli River, paddy fields, terraces, and hills will lead us back to Kathmandu where we will be staying in a hotel. Dinner will be served in the evening to celebrate the successful ‘Upper Mustang Trek.’ Alternatively, 25 minutes of pleasant flight can be chosen from Pokhara Airport to arrive at the Domestic Airport of Kathmandu.
