Trip Overview of Upper Mustang Trek
Upper Mustang Trek is a Restricted Area in the Ancient Buddhist Kingdom of Lo- Manthang. A special permit from Nepal Government is needed to join this pleasant trekking into the secular land of Mustang. Being curtained from the world, natives from Mustang were able to preserve their ancient culture and traditions in their original form.
Mustang Region gives views of more than 35 towering mountains that are over 6000m in height. Upper Mustang Trekking follows as diverse trails as the world’s deepest gorge in Kali Gandaki to the world’s highest regions of Lo- Manthang Valley. Visiting a thousand-year-old monastery, having scenic views of Nilgiri, Annapurna, and Dhaulagiri Mountains, and stepping into the city wall and the four-story palace in Lo- Manthang are the major attractions of Upper Mustang Trek.
Upper Mustang Trek at ‘Tourist Link Treks & Expedition’ is an amazing package that begins with a flight to Jomsom via Pokhara from where the adrenaline trekking experience initiates as we walk through Kagbeni to villages of Chele, Syanbochen, Ghami, and Charang to the fortified kingdom of Lo- Manthang. We will make the return trip through the settlements of Dramkar, Ghiling, Chhuksang, and Kagbeni to Jomsom from where we will fly back to Kathmandu via Pokhara, and the fun-filled trekking package concludes as we return to the hotel at Kathmandu.
Existing in the rain shadow of the Himalayas, Upper Mustang receives minimal rainfall which makes Upper Mustang Trek possible throughout the year.

Our main purpose is to satisfy clients and safety. Upper mustang trekking required a minimum of two-person need for a permit through the government-registered Nepal Trekking Company. Itinerary
Day 01: Arrival in Kathmandu(1345m)
30 Min. Breakfast only Hotel Kathmandu
Upon landing at the Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu, you will be greeted by a representative from ‘Tourist Link Treks & Expedition’ who will then convey you through the vibrant streets in Kathmandu to the hotel where you will receive a brief explanation regarding your trekking package. You will spend a pleasant night in the comfy bed.
Day 02: Sightseeing in Kathmandu Valley

Taking light breakfast early in the morning, our guide will then take you for a pleasant day tour inside Kathmandu which encompasses the UNESCO enlisted holiest shrine of Shiva at Pashupatinath Temple Complex, the Bouddhanath Stupa which is the largest Stupa existing inside Kathmandu, Swayambhunath Temple aka Monkey Temple which is the oldest Stupa inside Kathmandu which dates almost 2oooyrs back and the Kathmandu Durbar Square which is yet another UNESCO enlisted historical site where you will get chance to view the abode of Living Goddess- Kumari, Kasthamandap Temple, Kal Bhairab and many more.
Day 03: Fly or drive to Pokhara(900m)
6-7 hrs Only Breakfast Hotel Pokhara
A 25-minute pleasant flight from the Domestic Airport of Kathmandu with scenic views of Manaslu, Annapurna, and Langtang Himalayan range will be able to take us to Pokhara. Alternatively, we can choose 5hour of enchanting drive through the meandering road along the Prithvi Highway which will eventually take us to the beautiful lake city of Pokhara. The route will be full of natural grandeurs like the Trishuli River, rice terraces, and numerous peaks in the background.
Day 04: Fly Pokhara to Jomsom Trek to Kagbeni (2800m)
5 hrs B/L/D Mountain Lodge
It takes 20 minutes of pleasant flight over mountains to arrive at the Airport in Jomsom. We will be enjoying the views of Annapurna and Dhaulagiri Mountains from the comfortable seats of the plane. Landing at Jomsom which is the district headquarters and the hub of the Mustang Region, we will begin our trekking by walking along Kali Gandaki River to the village at Kagbeni which is the gateway for Upper Mustang.
Day 05: Trek to Chele(3050m)
5-6 hrs B/L/D Mountain Lodge
Walking along the eastern bank of Kaligandaki River, we will follow the upward trail to Tangbe Village. Making our way through the narrow alleys between the homes, we will arrive at the fields of buckwheat and apples which we will cross to reach to Chhusang Village. Later we will cross the Kaligandaki River over a suspension bridge to make it to Chele Village which is located at the top of the ridge.
Day 06: Trek to Syanbochen(3800m)
5-6 hrs B/L/D Mountain Lodge
Climbing the slope, we will move forward along the side of a deep canyon and cross a stack of rock at Samar from where we will pursue the downward trail to the river. Passing through Juniper trees, we will choose the escalating trail which leads us through the cave at Ramchung to Syanbochen.
Day 07: Trek to Ghami(3520m)
5-6 hrs B/L/D Mountain Lodge
Passing through the Tibetan-styled local houses, tea houses, and chortens, we will choose the ascending trail to Yamda La which is a pass located at3850m altitude. Enjoying some of the scenic natural views from the apex of Yamda La, we will travel through Nyi Pass (4010m) to the pretty village of Ghami.
Day 08: Trek to Charang(3620m)
5-6 hrs B/L/D Mountain Lodge
Walking through the trail lined with Mani walls, we will have a gentle descent from the hill to arrive at the huge five-story white Dzong and red Gompa which exists at the Kali Gandaki gorge on the eastern edge of the village. Observing the architectural design of the Gompa, we will make an advance to the village of Charang which is located at the top of Charang Chu.
Day 09: Trek to Lo- Manthang (3810m)
5-6 hrs B/L/D Mountain Lodge
Following the rocky path, we will lower down to Charang-Chu from where the trail escalates uphill to arrive at the land of moraines. We will have the first look into the walled city of Lo-Manthang from the land of moraines before heading towards the walled city of Lo-Manthang.
Day 10: Exploration Day at Lo-Manthang

It is taken as the exploration day. We will explore around the walled city of Lo Manthang by which we will be visiting the western valley of Tingkhar, to the site of the summer palace of the Raja. Kimling, Phuwa, and the Namgyal Gompa (Monastery of Victory Gompa which is the newest and most active of Lo) are other sites that are worth visiting.
Day 11: Trek to Dramkar(3820m)
5-6 hrs B/L/D Mountain Lodge
Lo-Manthang is the farthest point of our trek. So, on the 10th day, we will be making a return trip. We will choose a different path that moves forward through Dramkar. En route, we will visit the Ancient Gyokar Gompa which is rich in paintings that are popular among locals as the wish-fulfilling Gompa. Climbing the ridge, we will have a gentle descent from where we will continue walking to Dramkar.
Day 12: Trek to Ghiling(3570m)
5-6 hrs B/L/D Mountain Lodge
Choosing the dusty and windy trail, we will arrive at the barren lands of Ghiling. We will enjoy the perfect views of Dhaulagiri and Nilgiri Mountains from Ghiling and later we will visit the friendly locals at Ghiling to know their ways of living. We will stay in a camp at Ghiling for the night.
Day 13: Trek to Chhuksang(2980m)
5-6 hrs B/L/D Mountain Lodge
The trek on the 12th day begins early in the morning as we take the easy trail that lowers down from the hill to Chhuksang. It takes about 6hours of walking to arrive at Chhuksang which offers pleasant views of the surrounding mountains and landscapes. We will be staying overnight at Chhuksang.
Day 14: Trek to Jomsom via Kagbeni(2720m)
6-7 hrs B/L/D Hotel Jomsom
Continuing through the trail that prolongs along the southern border of the Mustang region, we will head to Kagbeni. Walking past Kagbeni, the trail prolongs through the bank of Kali Gandaki River all the way to Jomsom. Since flights from Jomsom during the daytime are usually impossible due to heavily blowing wind, we will be staying overnight in a hotel at Jomsom.
Day 15: Fly back to Pokhara
30 Min Only Breakfast Hotel Pokhara
20 minutes of an early morning flight with views of Annapurna and Dhaulagiri Mountains will take us to Pokhara. We will spend our spare time exploring the enchanting Lake city of Pokhara whereby we will be visiting Phewa Lake, Seti Gorge, David Fall, KI Singh Bridge, Mahendra Cave, and the International Mountaineering Museum prior to returning back to the hotel where we will be staying overnight.
Day 16: Drive or fly back to Kathmandu
6-7 hrs Only Breakfast Hotel Kathmandu
5 hours of scenic drive through the serpentine roads along Prithvi Highway with exotic views of the Trishuli River, paddy fields, terraces, and hills will lead us back to Kathmandu where we will be staying in a hotel. Dinner will be served in the evening to celebrate the successful ‘Upper Mustang Trek.’ Alternatively, 25 minutes of pleasant flight can be chosen from Pokhara Airport to arrive at the Domestic Airport of Kathmandu.
Day 17: Departure
30 min Only Breakfast
The wonderful 16days ‘Upper Mustang Trek’ comes to an end on this day as you will be transferred back to Tribhuvan International airport by our representative. We are happy to serve you and we will be looking forward to your next visit.
