Makalu Base Camp Trek is one of the best treks in Nepal for those who are seeking the unspoiled solitary type of adventure where the trekker can quench their thirst for adventure inside rugged and unspoiled Himalayan terrain. This journey starts with a scenic 45-minute flight to Tumlingtar and drives all the way to Num and treks all the way to Makalu Base Camp and comes back trekking.

Makalu Base Camp Trek is located in the Makalu Barun national park which is one of the national parks and was established in 1992 AD with the aim of protection and conservation. The lower part of this region consists of tropical and subtropical climates whereas the upper part consists of an alpine and arctic climatic zone. During Makalu Base Camp Trek you can observe multiple ethnic groups people, their customs, culture, tradition, and way of living. All the multi-cultured people and diverse flora-fauna can be seen in the lower part of the National park. After crossing river Arun the trail goes all the way up to Makalu Base Camp crossing several passes, streams, Jungle, and meadows.

Itinerary

Airport representative from Tourist link Trek will welcome you at Tribhuvan International Airport Kathmandu and escort you to your hotel. Director Hom will meet you there and give a briefing about the trip.

Kathmandu valley sightseeing/overnight at Hotel: After having breakfast you will meet your tour guide he will take you to Kathmandu valley sightseeing by car. Some of the UNESCO world heritage are visited this day.

Early morning we drive to Kathmandu airport your guide will accompany you. It’s a 45-minute scenic flight to Tumlingtar. After arriving at Tumlingtar we drive to Num which takes 5 hours through scenic hilly Highway.

Early morning after having breakfast we start trekking. The trail goes downhill all the way river Arun valley and climbs uphill to Seduwa. We stop for launch at Hedagna Gadi which is the village mostly inhabited by Rai people. After launch, we go uphill slowly to our destination Seduwa.

From there you can see a panoramic view of the Mountain on the northern side whereas the southern side view will be blessed by the lush green hills. We spend overnight at the mountain lodge.

Today after having breakfast we commence our journey to a higher elevation in order to get acclimatized. we spend a few hours at higher elevations in order to get well acclimatized. We come back to our guest house around the afternoon, have a launch, and get relaxed.

We take a slow and steady pace in order to maintain constant speed and stability. we stop for launch at Temathang Kharka. we walk 5.5 hours in total.

The vegetation gets sparse as we get to higher provinces. We walk through the trail high above Barun Nadi river which is one of the major tributaries to the mighty Koshi river which is known as the sorrow of Bihar of India.

On this day we walk for a few hours. We take launch at Yangri Kharka. After taking the launch we walk a higher altitude to make better acclimatization.

The landscape gets barren as higher as we go but the beautiful landscape always amazes you. After reaching the teahouse we walk a few hundred meters up in order to get better acclimatized.

After having breakfast we go for a walk in order to explore around. We can see a very close-up view of Mt Makalu's south face as well as a panorama including Everest and Lhotse. We celebrate the successful journey there. The base camp is itself located on scenic ground so, we always get blessed with scenic views.

After the successful completion of the journey, we descend down to Yangri Kharka. Don't forget to look back to Mt Makalu to say final good-by to the close-up view. After spending a few days at the high altitude it feels better and you will start gaining your appetite back.

We start early in the morning after breakfast. The trail goes downhill through lush green bushes and green rhododendron forest. It's the time to observe the scenery in detail because when we walk uphill due to altitude and fatigue we cannot properly focus on the scenery.

The trail goes mostly downhill all the way to Tashigaon. The trail descends down through a lush green forest where we can see a bunch of small streams and a waterfall. Going downhill from high altitude makes you full of oxygen breathing which is an incredible experience.

Today we descend downhill to Seduwa. After spending a few days in the mountain today we are reaching the village and settlement and making exit to Makalu Barun National Park. If you are willing to explore the village and have fun with kids and locals it would be the day for you after a long trek.

The trail goes downhill all the way to the mighty river Arun which originates in Tibet. After crossing the river trail leads uphill to Num. Today is the day you are going to spend overnight at the big settlement of Num where you can explore the village and interact with locals. You can try some local cuisine and liquor such as Tibetan hot beer (Tongba) here.

After having breakfast we get ready to drive back to Tumlingtar which is the famous trade hub of this region where we take a flight back to Kathmandu the next day. The scenic drive goes through the ridge of a lush green hill. it takes roughly five hours to reach Tumlingtar. We celebrate the last night with staff members here in Tumlingtar because the next day they take the bus back home.

Early morning after breakfast we walk to Tumlingtar airport in order to take a flight back to Kathmandu. Don't forget to choose the right-hand side because you can see a scenic view of the Himalayas during your flight. You will be taken to your hotel after arriving at Kathmandu airport.

You will be transferred to Tribhuvan International Airport by Tourist Link Treks & Expedition. You receive a Nepali-style farewell treat. Manager Hom will say goodbye to you at the farewell.
