Trip Overview of Upper Mustang Trek
Upper Mustang Trek is a Restricted Area in the Ancient Buddhist Kingdom of Lo- Manthang. A special permit from Nepal Government is needed to join this pleasant trekking into the secular land of Mustang. Being curtained from the world, natives from Mustang were able to preserve their ancient culture and traditions in their original form.
Mustang Region gives views of more than 35 towering mountains that are over 6000m in height. Upper Mustang Trekking follows as diverse trails as the world’s deepest gorge in Kali Gandaki to the world’s highest regions of Lo- Manthang Valley. Visiting a thousand-year-old monastery, having scenic views of Nilgiri, Annapurna, and Dhaulagiri Mountains, and stepping into the city wall and the four-story palace in Lo- Manthang are the major attractions of Upper Mustang Trek.
Upper Mustang Trek at ‘Tourist Link Treks & Expedition’ is an amazing package that begins with a flight to Jomsom via Pokhara from where the adrenaline trekking experience initiates as we walk through Kagbeni to villages of Chele, Syanbochen, Ghami, and Charang to the fortified kingdom of Lo- Manthang. We will make the return trip through the settlements of Dramkar, Ghiling, Chhuksang, and Kagbeni to Jomsom from where we will fly back to Kathmandu via Pokhara, and the fun-filled trekking package concludes as we return to the hotel at Kathmandu.
Existing in the rain shadow of the Himalayas, Upper Mustang receives minimal rainfall which makes Upper Mustang Trek possible throughout the year.

Day 05: Trek Kagbeni to Chaile 3050m

Day 10: Exploration Day at Lo-Manthang

Take a day to explore the ancient walled city of Lo Manthang, starting with a visit to the western valley of Tingkhar. Here, you can explore the site of the Raja's summer palace and admire the historic architecture. Don't miss Kimling, Phuwa, and the Namgyal Gompa, also known as the Monastery of Victory Gompa, which is the newest and most active monastery in Lo Manthang. Day 11: Trek Lo-Manthang to Dakmar 3820m

On the 10th day, we begin our return journey from Lo-Manthang, opting for a different path that leads us through Dramkar. Along the way, we'll visit the Ancient Gyokar Gompa, renowned for its paintings believed to fulfill wishes. After exploring the Gompa, we'll climb the ridge and descend gently before reaching Dramkar. This part of the trek offers a change of scenery and the opportunity to visit another culturally significant site, adding to the richness of your trekking experience in the Mustang region.
Day 12: Trek Dakmar to Ghiling3570m

Following a dusty and windy trail, we'll reach the barren lands of Ghiling, where stunning views of Dhaulagiri and Nilgiri Mountains await. On the 12th day, our trek starts early with an easy trail descending from the hill to Chhuksang. The journey takes approximately 6 hours, offering picturesque views of the surrounding mountains and landscapes along the way. Upon arrival in Chhuksang, we'll be greeted by the serene beauty of the area, providing a perfect setting to relax and unwind. Enjoy the peaceful atmosphere and stunning views before settling in for the night. Chhuksang's tranquil surroundings make it an ideal spot to reflect on the memorable experiences of the trek so far.
Day 14: Trek Chhuksang to Jomsom via Kagbeni2720m

Continuing along the trail that follows the southern border of the Mustang region, we'll make our way to Kagbeni. Passing through Kagbeni, the trail continues along the banks of the Kali Gandaki River, leading us to Jomsom. Due to the strong winds that often make daytime flights from Jomsom impossible, we'll spend the night in a hotel there. This final leg of the trek offers a peaceful walk alongside the river, allowing us to soak in the last views of the majestic landscapes before concluding our trek in Jomsom.
Day 15: Fly Jomshom to Pokhara

Enjoy a scenic 20-minute early morning flight from Jomsom to Pokhara, with stunning views of the Annapurna and Dhaulagiri Mountains. Day 16: Drive or fly back to Kathmandu

5 hours of scenic drive through the serpentine roads along Prithvi Highway with exotic views of the Trishuli River, paddy fields, terraces, and hills will lead us back to Kathmandu where we will be staying in a hotel. Dinner will be served in the evening to celebrate the successful ‘Upper Mustang Trek.’ Alternatively, 25 minutes of pleasant flight can be chosen from Pokhara Airport to arrive at the Domestic Airport of Kathmandu.
